Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) brought extraordinary precision to engraving, drawing, and printmaking, filling his work with dense linework, symbolic detail, animals, religious imagery, and studies of the human form. His compositions reward close looking, with even the smallest elements carrying visual weight.
